Saint Augustine is just a short drive up Florida 207 North from I-95. This town is a MUST SEE for any road trip through the area!
In all the places we have been in this country, none of them had the same feel as Saint Augustine. The town has an ambiance all it’s own, like Pirates of the Caribbean meets your favorite big city. There is something for everyone of every age to do that will hold their interest for your entire visit.
There is no shortage of restaurants and small bars with live music to sample the local flavors. The easiest way to find them all is to jump on the Old Towne Trolley Tour for a ride around the Old City. Your energetic trolley driver will show you all around town and give you local information as well as intriguing history lesson.
The farthest stop from Old City on the trolley tour is the Fountain Of Youth. Our recommendation is to make this your first Hop Off of the day, that way you can drink from the fountain and have the energy you’ll need for the rest of the day.
After leaving the Fountain of Youth, you’re going to ride back to the Old City. On the way be sure to take notes of what places you want to check out, and their relation to the Castillo de San Marcos National Monument. When you’re on foot later today this is going to be one of the easiest visual markers to find your way around!
At the end of your day you are definitely going to want to sit down and grab a bite to eat, and maybe even a drink or two. If you enjoy a lively crowd mixed with the hustle and bustle of a popular place, we suggest checking out Prohibition Kitchen.
If a smaller more laid back cigar bar is more your speed, our Uncle Mark recommends Stogies. And, now that he brought me there while Loretta and Aunt Stacy were checking out the Shops on St George, I do too.
It’s the bar every Private Detective in every 80’s movie would meet his clients in. The atmosphere is perfectly laid back with great spirits and fine cigars to relax in the ocean breeze with.
